The Price is Right

The Marist Men’s Basketball team (1-26) and prolific freshman point guard Devin Price (Inglewood, CA) travelled this past weekend to California for a one game matchup against the University of California Irvine (12-16).

Price was able to play in front of his home crowd on Saturday, the first time he has played in his native state since arriving at Marist. Price had a career-high 18 points on Saturday.  However, it was not enough as the Red Foxes lost their fifteenth straight game, 66-65. In 37 minutes of play, Price shot 4-for-8 from three-point range.  He also had four assists and a highlight reel dunk off a missed shot in the first half.

Friday night, Marist College will honor lone senior Javon Parris in the final home game of this dismal season.  Parris and his teammates will face St. Peters (15-12) at 7:30 Friday evening at the McCann Center.   The St. Peter’s Peacocks defeated our men on January 4th by a score of 61-49.  The Red Foxes will look to give Javon an appropriate win in his final game in Poughkeepsie. Parris hopes to be able to land a professional basketball contract overseas next year.

There is no getting around the fact that this year has been a difficult season for the young squad and their devoted fans.  It is certainly difficult to let your face be shown supporting a one win team.  Maybe it is about time the Fox Den fans start wearing brown paper bag’s over their heads, a la the former historically bad New Orleans Saints team’s fans.

The men will try to salvage a win against St. Peter’s at home before a tough road contest against the NCAA tournament bound Siena Saints to close out the horrific season.

West Coast Swing

Without overlooking Friday’s conference match against Manhattan, the only team the Marist men’s basketball team has salvaged a win against this season, the squad is getting excited to escape the undesirable Poughkeepsie mid-February winter when they travel to California.

Chuck Martin and the rest of the Red Foxes(1-21) learned Monday evening that they will face the University of California Irvine Anteaters(9-13) in an ESPNU BracketBuster face-off.  The game will be held on February 20th at the Bren Center.  The UC Irvine campus is located just over 40 miles from the Freshman point guard standout’s, Devon Price, hometown of Inglewoord, CA.  The squad will depart for their West Coast Swing on Thursday, February 18th and return to the frigid weather on Sunday the 21st.  As part of the BracketBuster agreement, UC Irvine will make a return trip to the McCann Center during the 2011-2012 season.

In recent news, Sophomore point guard (and my personal good friend) R.J. Hall is still nursing a right foot injury.  Hall had an MRI and X-Ray on his foot Sunday.  Last year’s rookie standout told me that he is being told it is most likely a dropped arch in his foot or a stress fracture.  Hall is still walking around campus with a severe limp.  Also battling injury is Dejuan Goodwin.  Goodwin was injured on January 2nd against Manhattan when a player landed on his arm and injured his shoulder.  The redshirt junior has not seen action since and there is still no timetable for his return.

The team travels to Manhattan for the second matchup of the teams this season.  Marist got its only win of the season against Manhattan on January 2nd, a 72-66 home win.  Tip-off is scheduled for 9PM and the game can be seen on ESPNU.

Good Luck Boys!

Hilarious (& well written) Blog

I found this blog very entreating.  Let me make it clear, however, that I do not find Paul Shirley’s articles funny, but I find the blog and parts of the writing to be comical.
